Code of Conduct

We welcome and encourage everyone to use our facility and want to make sure that all our visitors have an enjoyable experience whilst attending Southern Swimming Pool.

Our public swimming code of conduct is intended to provide clear guidance as to the standards of behaviour expected of people attending our facility.

 

What We Expect
  • Treat our employees and visitors with courtesy and respect

  • Use our facility, equipment and property in an appropriate manner

  • Adhere to all instructions and signage

  •  Visitors who experience or witness incidents of unacceptable behaviour are encouraged to report them to a member of staff so that action can be taken

 

Facility Rules
  • No smoking (includes vaping), alcohol or drugs permitted on site

  • No food to be consumed in the changing rooms or on poolside

  • No outdoor footwear to be worn on poolside – overshoe covers are provided

  • No glass containers to be taken into the changing rooms or pool hall

  • No spectators on poolside without prior permission

  • The use of mobile phones and other photographic equipment is strictly prohibited on poolside, in changing rooms and toilets.

  • Filming or photographing the pool hall, customers, or staff is strictly prohibited

  • Adhere to our Child Admission Policy – all children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by someone over the age of 16 to a maximum ratio of 2:1

  • Place all belongings into a locker after getting changed

  • In the event of an emergency or alarm, all customers must immediately follow lifeguard instructions and evacuate the facility when directed

  • Do not enter the changing rooms or swimming pool without paying your admission, or signing in at reception

 

Health and Hygiene
  • Use the toilet and shower before swimming

  • Personal safety – before you enter the water, please let the lifeguards know of any circumstances that may affect your swimming ability

  • Do not swim if you are suffering from ear/nose/throat infections, open wounds, or any other infection or medical condition that may hinder your ability to swim safely

  • Do not swim if you have diarrhoea or have had diarrhoea within the last 14 days

  • Children who are not toilet trained must wear swim nappies

 

Pool Rules

Lifeguards may vary or enforce pool rules depending on safety requirements and pool conditions.

  • Diving is only permitted from the deep end of the pool down the length of the pool

  • No diving in fun sessions

  • No running

  • No ducking or pushing people in the pool or under the water

  • No acrobatics or gymnastics

  • Only forward facing and feet first jumps are allowed

  • No bombing

  • No petting

  • No shouting

  • No fighting or bullying

  • No swearing or spitting

  • No throwing of floats and equipment

  • No standing on or jumping onto floats

  • No holding or standing on lane ropes

  • No prolonged underwater swimming

  • No diving masks or snorkels

  • Non-swimmers must stay in standing depth or within reach of a parent or guardian.

  • Wear appropriate attire that will not pose a hazard to you or others and is free from offensive slogans

 

Unacceptable and Disorderly Behaviour
  • The use of inappropriate or offensive language or swearing

  • Any form of unacceptable behaviour or aggression as defined in this code of conduct

  • Breaking pool rules and not listening to the pool staff

  • Disruption to lifeguards’ supervision through inappropriate or unsafe behaviour requiring specific supervision due to safety concerns.

  • Inappropriate use of mobile phones, taking photos or videos of staff and members of the public without permission

  • Any behaviour which puts the health and safety of yourself or others at risk

  • Physical contact with staff or customers which is intended to injure or intimidate

  • Deliberately causing damage to the facility, its contents and fixtures.

 

If The Code of Conduct is Breached

While we will make every effort to engage and facilitate all customers, there may be occasions where behaviours cannot be tolerated. Whilst incidents are few, if our Code of Conduct is breached, we may take the following action to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for the community:

  • Implement and enforce exclusion protocols as supported and agreed by Southern Swimming Pool Board as detailed in our Behaviour Policy (please speak to management for a copy of this policy)

  • Refer matters to the police with the intent of prosecution
